Potter Rees Support the launch of the Cumbria Community Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team
19/11/2009
On 17 November, Hugh Potter, Helen Shaw and Alison Hartley of Potter Rees were delighted to support the Service Launch of the Cumbria Community Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team.
This Service is an exciting and important development for the many Potter Rees clients who live throughout Cumbria.
The well attended event was held at the Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith and its purpose was to introduce this new inter disciplinary Team and to explain how brain injured clients throughout Cumbria can access the wide range of services now available to them.
The Launch was supported by some very distinguished speakers including the Rehabilitation Consultants Dr Mark Roberts and Dr David Shakespeare.
Presentations were given by Dr Sarah Fryer, a Clinical Neuropsychologist, Jan Waddington, a Physiotherapist and two Occupational Therapists, Kate Hollingham and Shirley Woolridge, all of whom have considerable experience of working with brain injured individuals and who are pleased to be part of the newly formed Team.
Perhaps the most memorable contributions to the day were made by clients who had worked with Team members in the past, each of them explaining the help they had obtained and how their lives had improved as a result of the specialist input received.
The Cumbria Community Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team is now taking referrals from people who have an acquired brain injury and who are registered with a Cumbrian GP.
The Team comprises specialists in a number of areas including Neuropsychology, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics and Case Management and can provide assessment, advice and treatment for clients and their carers on a wide range of issues arising from the problems commonly associated with brain injury.
