Potter Rees Staff Run a few miles for BASIC.
26/5/2009
Eleven members of the Potter Rees team ran the BUPA Great Manchester 10k Run in aid of BASIC (Brain and Spinal Injury Centre) which took place in the City centre on Sunday 17th May 2009. Over 33,000 runners took part in this massive sporting event, most of whom were raising money for their nominated charities.
All the hard work in training paid off as Hugh, Rachel, Vicky, Cathy, Nicola, Jerry, Fiona, Margaret, Sam, Charlie and Rebecca all managed the gruelling 6.2 miles in very respectable times. Jerry even achieved a PB for this course at 40 mins and 2 seconds - excellent work! Charlie ran this distance for the first time ever (and only trained for 3 weeks) and managed the course in a fantastic 49 minutes. The weather was kind to us and the rain held off until after the big run, which was a bonus.
However, we were all there for one reason, which was to raise as much money as possible for an excellent cause. BASIC is a specialist resource for people and their families in crisis following a traumatic brain injury or neurological diagnosis. This includes people recovering from severe head injury, brain haemorrhage, brain tumour and other brain-related conditions such as stroke and brain cancer. We have managed to raise so far in excess of £1700, with sponsorship monies still rolling in - so all the sweat and tears were worth it and we are very pleased and thankful to everyone who wished us luck and took the time to donate.
We all had a fantastic day, the atmosphere was brilliant and the crowd really helped spur us all on. So now we all have the running bug, we'll be signing up for next years' Great Manchester 10k Run as soon as we can with all of us aiming to raise money for our chosen charity and with the intense aim of beating this year's times. All in all the Great Manchester Run truly was Great!
