Potter Rees Sponsors 'Snowdonia Charity Challenge'

17/9/2008

REGAIN, the CREGAIN Team Snowdon Challengeharity for Sports Tetraplegics', recently hosted their hugely popular annual triathlon-style one-day team event set in the beautiful surroundings of Snowdonia National Park in North Wales and PotterRees was proud to sponsor David Seed and his team, helping to raise money for this excellent Trust.    The challenge, now in it's eighth year attracts competitors from all over the UK.  It is an exciting adventure race that tests the fittest teams  over a 40 mile cycling route, a Snowdon climb and a canoe course on Lake Padarn in Llanberis.

David Seed, a member of the PotterRees sponsored team explains:

"We set off from Llanberis at around 7.30am and headed for the first 20 mile bike ride to Rhyd Ddu.  The first section had some steep climbs and as we rode around the West of Snowdon the views were picturesque country lanes.  On reaching Rhyd Ddu we left the bikes and after a quick refreshment stop started to climb up Snowdon.  The climb went well, more spectacular views over South West Wales - a few of the teams suffered and we passed people lying on the ground suffering from cramp!!  At the top, following a short break, we headed off back down, which I found to be the hardest part as I began to feel the legs!  After the second 20 mile bike ride, the final section was a 5k canoe round Lake Padarn which, apart from a few steering problems with two canoes stuck together with 4 paddles, went okay.  Looking back, the hardest part was getting our team leader out of his sleeping bag at 6.30 in the morning when he had gone to bed only half an hour before a little worse for the alcohol!    We still managed to get round the course in a respectable 7 hours.  We would just like to say thank you to PotterRees for sponsoring our team on the day, we managed to raise £2500 for the trust and we had a great time with a rare sunny day for the event."
