Car crash victim wins highest ever compensation award
30/3/2010
Wasim Mohammed from the West Midlands was involved in a car accident in July 2006 just five days before his nineteenth birthday. Mr Mohammed, now 22, was sitting in the passenger seat when the driver attempted to overtake another car at a junction. Unfortunately, the driver clipped the other car and ploughed into a wall at an estimated 50 mph, leaving Mr Mohammed tetraplegic, unable to move his legs and with minimal movement in his arms.
Mr Mohammed now needs specialist treatment on a daily basis from two full time carers.
The record out of court settlement is divided into a lump sum of £4.25 million and annual payments of £235,000 to meet his lifelong care - worth an estimated £11.15 million.
The agreement was reached just hours before the case was due to be heard at Birmingham County Court last week. Speaking after the settlement, Mr Mohammed said that he was thankful the case had come to an end.
