£8 million Compensation for Girl
4/3/2009
An eight year old girl has been awarded £8 million in damages after being left with severe life-long disabilities following a road traffic accident that happened before she was even born.
The little girl's mother was a passenger in a car involved in a head-on collision in 2000 when she was just 6 months pregnant. The injuries to the mother and unborn child were enough to cause a 'placental abruption', having devastating consequences for the rest of the unborn child's life. The little girl was born with acute cerebral palsy and other severe disabilities that have left her needing a lifetime of care.
Described as an 'unusual' and 'complex' case, Judge Nelson sitting in London's High Court awarded the £8 million as a lump sum payment, which is uncommon in these types of cases as such awards are normally spread out in the form of periodical paytments over a lifetime.
